Nurturing of Home
Where do we go when we are hurting? If we're lucky, we go home. Racing or meandering, when at rock bottom we move towards home if it is a place of nurturing and peace.
I've learned over many years working with clients that people do one of two things when establishing their own homes. First, if their childhood was a good one they try to imitate the feel, look and smell of that original nest. Second, if their childhood was less than wonderful they choose the complete opposite in style and look; trying to erase negative memories. We think it is only a style and decor issue, but it is always much more!
What will happen to those who have just lost the center of their universe in flash mud floods and wild fires all over California or as the result of fierce hurricanes Harvey, Maria, and Irma? The costs are far more than mere dollars and these hurricanes caused the most costly damage in history. Those of us sitting in our warm homes tonight may not relate to the magnitude of the sudden and cataustrophic loss. Still, anyone who has lost a home through divorce or death knows a bit of the agony of leaving an entire life behind; memories, objects collected on trips, or symbols of achievement.
Let us help each other in the year ahead. Where do we go when we are hurting? Home. So let's look together this year at dozens of ways to transform any home into a unique place of peace and sanctuary.
